Final- Technology and Me

Technology- Toxic or Beneficial?

Technology is healthy and unhealthy in multiple ways. It is beneficial with school and work but could potentially harm your mental health if you use it for personal use. I think technology is taking too much time in my life. I look at a screen over 6 hours a day and it is always a priority every single day for me. I get anxious when I am not near my phone and I hate relying on it and needing it by my side every 2 seconds especially when I sleep. I also think that technology helps with communication a lot. Especially with all the different apps it offers. Imagining life without technology is honestly pretty scary. Life would be a lot harder without the technology we have today. It is only up to society to see how technology will grow in the next couple of years.

You might think we control technology, but it actually controls us. It is so addicting, and we sit on our phones constantly. I also think we rely on technology way too much. I was on vacation in Key West and needed to delete Instagram for a month. It was honestly the healthiest and refreshing month ever! I redownloaded it because it was summer and I missed connecting with people. It was so nice to get away from the negativity and to just clear my head. I always think about how we have accepted technology as a whole. It is how society copes.

My sisters love social media and use it when they’re bored and to post with friends. They post things like their hobbies and fun things they do on the weekends. Technology is pretty much a bonding experience for me and my friends. We talk about a lot of things like Tik Tok drama and such. It is fun to discuss what we see and then we come together and talk about it. I also feel like when I go on Instagram on my explore page, I see things about “how to calm down if you have anxiety” and such. There are a lot of motivational posts that Instagram can offer. Facebook has gotten a lot more political, so I have stepped down a little bit from it.

Body image is a huge deal on social media. When a girl posts a bikini picture, girls get very insecure about it and look in the mirror and get really uncomfortable with how their body looks. Little do people know, a lot of editing plays a role when celebrities post. It is all about photoshop and editing skills from them and I wish more girls realize it.

When I googled myself, my LinkedIn came up as well as my Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. I am glad my LinkedIn came up for business opportunities. Employers would find all my social media accounts which are professional and classy because of my sorority.  I know that there are a lot of Jana Saber’s on social media but mine comes right up which means my name is out there. There is one picture, and it is my twitter profile picture.

My view of social media is more toxic than beneficial. I use Snapchat more than anything which is probably one of the less toxic apps that is popular today. When using social media, you need to remember that you only see the positive sides of people. No one posts pictures of them crying or sad. They might seem so happy but in reality, they might be so sad. I have very mixed feelings with social media but I will still use it because it is a part of the world today and it would be strange if I had it for years and years and then all of a sudden go odd the grid.
